Forever
Our dogs hide under the bed,
escaping thunder.
But the sun shatters
a cloud and I know
we will live forever.
Each hour is the sky,
every day, another
star. Now the trees
join the wind
in rejoicing. This
is what we make,
they say. Only this.

“Forever” made its first appearance in July 2015.
Have known days like that and loved them. This one has to go on the favorites list!

I just love this, Robert. It’s an elegant journey from the quotidian joy of a dog hiding from thunder to rejoicing.

I am loving those cloud formations. Or is that too nerdy. It is, isn’t it, too nerdy. Sorry. But they are great aren’t they.

With the New Mexican monsoon fresh in my mind I absolutely reveled in this poem. You’ve captured so well the immediacy and seeming vastness of living that comes together in a storm and its passing. Alas, dogs and cats are not so philosophical about it… 🙂

I enjoy the power and beauty of storms, but not the aftermath. And the dogs – thunder and fireworks send them straight to Anxiety Land.
