Balance
Navigating
by stars,
one ball
buried,
another
gathering,
the dung
beetle
straight-lines,
maintains
position,
forever
looking forward
and up.

Interesting contradictions: words that invoke determination and guidance from heaven in contrast to “beetle” and “dung”. A wry commentary on those who think that their goals are foreordained? On the rigidity of the narrowly focused? Or is it an appreciation of the humblest of vocations–these workers also look to the stars?

It could be a mix of all. 🙂

I agree with fritzdenis, contradictions. And the title? Serious or ironic? Hmmm…

It’s from morguefile.com, where most of the photos I use come from. The ball is dung. They’re actually pretty speedy in forming them.

This poem reminds me of the philosophy of Japanese Haiku poems though this poem is not a Haiku. I really loved reading this one.
