This poem makes me despair that other human beings have to write poems such as this.
This poem makes me despair that I’ll never write anything so true.
Read the poem. Listen to the recording. Celebrate Danez Smith and his words.

This makes me unbelievably sad.

This poem is so heartbreaking, enraging, and powerful. I read it a few weeks ago and instantly saved it to my files. All his work is incredible. In fact, I’m using his poem “Little Prayer” as the epigraph and through-thread to a new novel. Thank you for posting this.

I read it a few days ago, and thought WOW! But I didn’t listen to it until today. WOW doesn’t come close to describing what that experience did to me.

I’ve watched videos of him, which were also very moving, but the disembodied voice without visuals affected me even more.

The real problem is that the people who need to hear these words aren’t listening…(K)
