A Cheese Omelet at Midnight
You can’t ever leave without saying something,
no matter how insipid. That sweater looks good

It’s been a rather “eggy” month. I believe this is the third one with eggs.

Your poem directs us to say what we mean,
really mean.
Is it enough to say of these verses
“how enjoyable”?
I mean it, after all,
but it doesn’t say enough.
Is “not enough” okay?
Is it really what I mean?
Oh, the dilemma
expressing oneself with words!

Loved this piece, Robert! There’s a certain trepidation with getting that honest that I think ultimately is a hesitation to look at something we fear. So we play these games, and skid along the surface… Until one of your poems grabs us and pulls us under!

Thanks, Michael. It can be difficult to be direct, but sometimes nothing else will do.
