About

A poet considers the intersections of language and numbers, connections between disparate entities – the currents stirring within the Phoenician iteration of our letter M and the Japanese character for water, mizu, or the intertwined strands of solar wind and shadows, black-chinned hummingbirds and  coastal death rituals – all, of course, while contemplating good food and that most magnificent of elixirs, beer, which may have been the very foundation of civilization. Or not.

  1. Thank you for your visit….the Israeli situation is very distressing….if we could only replace “scripture” with “poetry” and acknowledge its fallibility there might be some hope…in adition the Israelis always forget that the fundamentalists hold the balance of power in their government too.

  2. Hello.

Thank you for the interest and support you’ve shown in my July 3words story.

I hope you not only return and follow for August, but also consider participating. It really is fun not knowing where the story is going.

I hope to self-publish a collection of my 3words stories this month – if enough participated I could do this each month, including your story.

Either way, thanks again. And happy reading.

  4. I spent many years in prison (Marijuana Poss. Sales) and poetry became my comfort. I was fortunate. So many of the incarcerated loose their sense of self “inside” & poetry allowed me to cling to my being a person. I have begun a Blog and am seeking advice, if you’ve the time. My blogging has come from self defense! Type in my name: Jeffrey Meranto ( at least in Arizona ) and what comes up is Federal Docs. of Narcotics violations. ( Marijuana is classified as a Class 1 Narcotic. ) In my new neighborhood all my neighbors thought that I was some big time Heroin dealer, They never went beyond the heading by clicking on it to discover the conviction was for pot. So I am forever stamped as a Narcotics King Pin I suppose. . As my blog states, “Just trying to set the record straight” Thanks for your work

  5. Hi! I just wanted to say thank you for liking one or two of my scribbles since I started trying this. It has taken me a while to work out how to thank people and follow them. Was a bit wary. However I really do enjoy the poetry and thoughts and possibilities that are struck from you and others. Really like your writing and comments experimenting and showing thought processes as you go.

  6. Hi, and many thanks for the “like” on “Fractions, home and away”.
I’m a late starter at this! There are a few more buried in my blog. Generally about math, and attempting to make a point about teaching and content, some of the latter being garbage.

  7. Thank you for dropping by my blog. I am glad you enjoyed the post. I see that you are interested in haiku, there are several beautiful ones used in a book I commented on earlier The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which is also the title of a haidun by Basho

  8. After reading a number of your poems, I am flattered that you lik my “Departures.” My genre is fiction, and I only write poetry a couple of times a year when I feel it’s form is better suited to what I want to express and how I want to convey it. Whether prose or poetry, I wholeheartedly agree that language as a bridge to often disparate ideas or images with an unexpected or unconsidered commonality is critical to good writing. I hope you come back to visit.

  9. I love what you wrote concerning poetry!!!!!! I myself write poems, short stories, and song lyrics. Though I have yet presented anything to any publishers. Not to many people realize that a rhyme can be a poem but poem doesn’t have to be a rhyme..

  13. Hi Robert thanks for dropping by my blog and liking some of my posts. Your poems are lovely. By the way I like umeboshi too – a great and filling snack. I had one most days during my time in Japan. I also noted your post about Li Po. Were you referring to Tai Shan? It’s a bit more than a hill so I was curious and thought I’d ask. Do you live in China?

    • Thanks for stopping by. Regarding the Li Po poem, I didn’t have a particular setting in mind, and adapted the poem to suit my needs. One of the hazards of working with transliterations and no knowledge of the source language. No, I live in Texas.

      • Ah yes, if I paid attention to my stats (and I just looked there right before your responded), I`d know you were in the US!! I was actually in Zibo, China once and I went to the place he was born (well a Chinese friend brought me there). That`s why I asked : )

  14. I was just on a blog where a woman was working through loss through images. Our way appears to be writing. I love your comment about “disparate entities.” I do this all the time. I can be driving to work and see a connection between a tree and a piece of concrete and end up writing a poem about it. Numbers have occupied some of my poems, too.
