I love the analogy of the duplicate firsts and fifths in mandolin “chords” creating the perception of an actual minor chord within the context. “A consistent thread weaves through it all.” Certainly, and I suppose you like to ride that thread! Thank you also for recommending Forsche’s anthology.

Monroe wanted more volume – he wanted the small instrument, despite its limitations, to be louder. So he used chord configurations that would allow him to strike more strings, even if they weren’t full chords – the art of implication! I’ve been a Forche fan for decades. The anthology is wonderful, as are her solo efforts.
