Thanks, Rob. I first drafted this about twenty years ago. Iโm glad I saw The Woolfโs call for creative nonfiction.

This is an absolutely amazing piece Bob. I love it. Such powerful visuals, trek and prose. Brilliant. So glad you got it published (and also as a result it rose to the top of the pile after years where I got a chance to read it).

Thanks, Chris. Iโve recently resurrected a few moribund poems, too, which have now seen the light of day.

Wow! I had to read this twice, because it speaks for a time and an occupation I did not know existed. At least I don’t think there are still bone men, or are there? I know there are laws about such things, but small villages in remote places sometimes have their own ways.
I know I pre-ordered a book from you but cannot find the info on it, so I hope it is the one that is about to be released. If not, then I’ll know when it gets here!
I was rereading the first post you wrote to tell us about your diagnosis. I see you celebrating life and it makes me smile.
p.s. you said you made your step-son’s favourite pasta. I love new pasta recipes, if it is one you would like to share.
Wow, long comment from me ๐

This was fifty+ years ago, in Italy. I suppose they sold the bones for glue or fertilizer, but I dunno.
You must have ordered Scarecrow Sees, a chapbook which will be released in January. I have four other books (two full length, another chapbook, and a micro-chap) coming out between now and March, but the only one with pre-orders is Scarecrow Sees. ๐

Thanks! It is a great story and I learned something new.
I appreciate you getting back to me about the book. Yes, it was Scarecrow sees. My brain has not been operating on all thrusters, as Dr. McCoy would say.
The book I wanted to watch for specifically was The Loveliest Bruises

Iโll definitely post as order links become available. Our Lovliest Bruises should be out in December!

“and wonder which bones will come my way” — That thought that’s at the back of our mind but seldom voiced.
Congratulations, Bob.

Lots of atmosphere in that short piece. Enjoyed it.
I always thought it curious that there were various, ostensibly actual, entrances to the underworld in various traditions.
