My poem “Latitude” is on the menu at Poetry Breakfast. Many thanks to Cate T. for sponsoring the title during the August 2015 Tupelo Press 30/30 Challenge, and to Charlotte the hen for laying the egg that inspired the poem. I’m pleased that it’s landed at a breakfast joint!

  1. Eggs are one of my protein staples, partly because I don’t care much for meat, but mostly because I don’t cook regularly, and eggs can be an easy cop-out that still tastes good.

THIS poem, though, reminds me why I’m enamored with roosters and chickens. Their little/big! personalities, their guttural, perceptive commentary on everything, their general affability (yet liability to become duly ruffled by an affront)… I can only aspire to be so real, alive. Indeed, they are metaphors, and not. πŸ”πŸ³πŸŒŽ

Congratulations, Sir Robert of the Vorpal Whisk!

  2. Charlotte and I are honored all over again, Bob! And you have put an edge on my appetite for scrambled eggs, which I plan to prepare posthaste. πŸ™‚ Congratulations on making the Poetry Breakfast menu!

    • Yep. Placing the eggs in simmering water, wrapping the eggs individually in plastic wrap before inserting in water, and using a poaching pan, which keeps the eggs out of the water. I like wrapping the eggs, as it allows you to add flavor (herbs, butter, seasoning), but that process does take a little longer.
