“Everything has its story” — that is the absolute essence of your poetry’s appeal. I love how you leave no stone unturned. Also, that Roland Barthes quotation is great; words to live by! 🙂
At the very least, I never lack subject material! The quote is from “Empire of Signs,” and refers to Japanese street systems, but it has taken on multiple meanings for me over the years, and has become, in essence, my motto. 🙂
I enjoyed this interview. Love the way you expressed that seeing into the mundane details of life reveals the extraordinary. That is a sentiment which very much guides my work as well.
Helter Skelter, eh? You sure it’s not Pride and Joy (SRV’s version) or, gosh, I don’t know too many artists in the genres you’ve mentioned . . . maybe “Closer to Fine”? (don’t know if you like Indigo Girls or not) Anyway, continuing congratulations, Bob, for your hard work and thoughtful (but not thought-clogged or -addled) poetry.

Thanks, Dwight. I must admit that my song reply was a bit tongue in cheek.

Interesting to read a little of the person behind the poems.

When people ask these questions, I feel compelled to answer. But I generally prefer to let the poems speak for themselves.

I think helter skelter describes my process, but the song is another matter. Ha! SRV and the Indigo Girls. Now you’re talking!

Good interview. You handle the themes of perception and interconnectedness so well in your poetry; this shed important light on that aspect.

Thanks, Craig. I never set out to write on these themes, but over the years they seem to have emerged from my subconscious. Funny how that is.

Helter Skelter..Robert did you know I’ve an old piece with this title? I’ve discovered continuous synchronicity within the writing world. Too fun!

I love it when that happens. And it seems to happen quite often!
