You are the name
I whisper
to clouds.
Excerpt from “To the Light Entering the Shack One December Evening,” in From Every Moment a Second, available for prepublication order via Finishing Line Press. The poem first appeared in Shantih, in December 2016.
Very nice. You are doing a great job marketing your collection. From reviews, to peeks, to illustrated cover preview. You have earned your followers with kindness and interest in the work of others. May this be a very successful effort. I’ve got my order in!

Thanks, Joan. The marketing effort consumes a lot of time, and I don’t want to overdo it, but at the same time I have a responsibility to the publisher. On the one hand, I wish someone (anyone) else would handle this aspect of the business. On the other hand, there is no one else. 🙂

Tell you what. If I win a few million in the lottery I will become your PR person for free, and even put $$$$ into getting international attention for your works as well!

What a deal! How could I refuse? For the time being I’ll sit back and await your impending wealth.

YOur wait will be eternal. I never win anything that involves any chance: casino games, the lottery, draws, etc. But when you see glowing angels flying over your backyard conversing in Tamil, then you’ll know that I have won the lottery that very instant!

I won a garbage can cart when I was seven or eight years old, and the only time I played slot machines I won $20. Unfortunately it took $30 to do that. I look forward to seeing those glowing angels, Daniel!

They’ll speak Tamil and they will be saying:
Angel One: “Hey! Isn;t this Robert Okaji’s yard? Man, that Okaji fellow sure nailed the metaphysical meaning of Existence in his poem “I Have Answers”!
Angel Two: “Indeed, ‘the misplaced one’ really tied the later stanzas together…”

But what I’ll hear is “Have you any beer to spare?” Such is translation. 😀

Hey, if I win the lottery. I will make sure you never run out of beer, ever.

Running out of beer is almost as unlikely as winning the lottery!

I don’t drink beer, other than Asahi Super Dry with food, so I will gladly run out of all other beers. But single malt whiskey on the other hand, that would be a CRUEL, miserable day when the last distillery closes. As long as Ireland, Scotland, Japan, and their respective distilleries exist, humanity still has a chance…
